Welcome to the Oberlin Municipal Light and Power
System (OMLPS) website. OMLPS is a community-owned, not-for-profit
electric utility created by the local residents in 1934 to provide
high quality, affordable services tailored to the unique needs of
the Oberlin Area. Links listed on the left side of the page will
provide you access to all of OMLPS's value-added services and electric
conservation, efficiency and safety information.

Background Information on OMLPS
OMLPS distributes, transmits, and generates electric
power to its over 3000 residential and commercial customers. The system
maximum demand is 22,400 kilowatts and the sales for the year 2007
were 112,068,2686 kilowatt-hours. OMLPS is operated by 20 employees.
Annual utility expenses for 2007 were $9,726,338 of which $5,785,962
was used to purchase wholesale power supply for the community.
Annual revenues for 2007 were $9,729,909 of which $1,130,000 was
contributed to the City in lieu of taxes to further support the
community. OMLPS also owns and operates 20 megawatts of
diesel/natural gas generation capacity that is used for peak-shaving
for 21 municipally-owned electric utilities in the northeast Ohio
area.
